My Miss Caroline
grab Hanover Stakes
A pair of Hanover Stakes put freshmen trotters on display on Wednesday night (Oct. 28) at Balmoral Park as a field of nine fillies battled for a purse of $50,300 while seven of their male counterparts slugged it out for a purse of $45,200.

My Miss Caroline ended her freshman campaign with her 11th win in 12 starts for driver Dave Magee as she romped home in the $50,300 Hanover Stakes for 2-year-old trotting fillies.

In the filly tussle La Bella Vita Stables, Robert Taylor and Kevin Dixon’s Illinois-bred sensation My Miss Caroline continued her dream season as she romped home with a decisive 7-½ length romp in 2:00.
Getting away in sixth as I Want Fabulous (Mike Oosting) went storming to the top driver Dave Magee was more than content to bide his time with the daughter of Psychic Spirit-Miss Clara T as the field moved through an opening quarter in 29.2.
Getting underway on the backstretch the Robert Taylor-trained miss began picking off rivals in her usual fashion moving up first-over as I Want Fabulous continued to show the way by the half-mile mark in 59.3.
“She was really terrific tonight,” said driver Dave Magee. “She was really into the bit once we got rolling on the outside and she just continued to pick them off despite the fact that I had one heck of a hold on her.”
Hitting what looked like her top gear despite moving straight into the teeth of a 30 mph wind as she moved around the final bend, My Miss Caroline came roaring up right alongside a tiring I Want Fabulous as the fillies moved by the three-quarter-mile mark in 1:31.3.
Quickly leaving her rivals in her wake My Miss Caroline effortlessly opened up a six-length advantage by the mid-stretch call. It was all over from there as Magee had the filly well in hand as she trotted under the wire with her 11th win in 12 career starts. Caviar’s Delight (Mike Brink) rallied late to finish second while Caitrin Hall (Mike Cox) finished third.
“In reality she had the toughest trip in the race but yet she still just left them standing there in the lane,” marveled Magee. “She’s been a pleasure to drive all year long and I’m thankful that trainer Robert Taylor, who did such a magnificent job with her all year long, gave me the chance.”
With only a third-place finish in the American-National standing between her and a perfect season, My Miss Caroline, who is now done racing for the year, boasts $180,575 in earnings. The 2-5 favorite in the wagering returned $2.80, $2.40 and $2.10. Despite the low win mutuel My Miss Caroline capped off the biggest 50-Cent Pick-5 payoff in Balmoral Park history with the winning combination of 8-1-7-4-7 returning a whopping $24,550.05!
