Impressive Kemp got up in the final strides to win the 3-year-old Filly Trot in 1:54.4.

The time was 1:54.4 by a margin of 2-1/4 lengths. Driven by Ron Pierce for trainer Noel Daley, Impressive Kemp is owned by Jean Cloutier of Derby Line, Vermont.

The early pace was controlled by Up Front Juansteen, who led the field to the :27 quarter-mile mark before being overtaken first by Behindclosedoors (Dave Palone) and then Ultimate Cameron (George Brennan) in short order by the time the field reached the half-mile mark in :56.

By the 1:24.4 three-quarters, Ultimate Cameron was holding off Bramalea Hanover (David Miller) on her outside, with a cavalry charge coming at them in the last turn. Spicy Wings (John Campbell) was momentarily on the lead, but outside of her, Impressive Kemp was coming fastest of all out in the center of the track to pass them all for the win.

"I knew she was a little tricky to drive," said Ron Pierce. "A couple times I got around OK, a couple times it was wrong. They mixed it up a little and I got live cover and they took us to the top. I reached up and tapped her with the whip and that was the wrong thing to do and she just lay down on me. She really didn't like it."

Trainer Noel Daley says Impressive Kemp has always had ability.

"She's always been very good, she interferes a little, but the last six weeks, she's been really, really good," Daley noted. "She's doing better than most of these but we were going to need some luck. It was a 50/50 shot to go here or in the consolation of the New York Sires, but there was no pressure on me and we got what we got."
