  Aachoo Takes Super Bowl By A Nose

The photo finish camera was put to work to help sort out a wild wrap up to the $79,000 Super Bowl Series on Wednesday at the Meadowlands. Three horses stormed home and hit the line together, and when it was all said and done it was an appropriately-named Aachoo who won by a nose.

Aachoo, who came up a neck short in the opening leg of the series before powering away to a 1:56.1 victory in leg two, survived a first-over journey in tonight’s final en route to holding off late challenges from runner-up Grey Ice and third-place finisher Beautiful Legacy in 1:57.1.

Tim Tetrick mapped out the winning trip for the Ron Burke-trained four-year-old daughter of Keystone Nordic, who races for the ownership group of Burke Racing Stable LLC, Howard Taylor and Weaver Bruscemi LLC of Pennsylvania.

"Tim [Tetrick] was driving her at Chester and he called me up and said there was a mare for sale and that he really liked her," Taylor said. "He said 'I think you ought to buy her,' so I made a call to Ronnie [Burke]. He liked her, so we bought her. I had no hesitation [racing Aachoo against male horses], she raced against the boys at Yonkers and won for us both times."

The mare has put together a 2-1-0 record in her first three starts of the 2010 campaign, and she’s now a 12-time winner in her career. The lion’s share of the purse bumped her lifetime earnings to $86,365.
