Sweet Lou in 1:48.1 Tattersalls score
Sweet Lou lived up to his name as he posted a 1:48.1 score in the $510,300 Tattersalls Pace for 3-year-old pacing colts on Saturday (Oct. 6) at The Red Mile.
Nigel Soult
Sweet Lou (5) posted a 1:48.1 score in the $510,300 Tattersalls Pace for 3-year-old pacing colts on Saturday at The Red Mile.
Dave Palone steered the Ron Burke trained son of Yankee Cruiser-Sweet Future to his eighth win of the year. Owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Lawrence Karr and Phillip Collura, Sweet Lou has now banked $894,126 this year.

Sweet Lou got away fourth as Simply Business took the field to the opening quarter in a swift :25.2. Bettor's Edge was out and rolling down the backstretch and was first at the :52.4 half with Sweet Lou now chasing first over in second.

The eventual winner cleared to the lead before the final turn was in front at the 1:20 three-quarter pole and then had to hold off fast closing stablemate Hillbilly Hanover at the wire. Bettor's Edge was third, Mel Mara fourth and Thinking Out Loud fifth.

"Credit to the horse," said Palone. "He went head to head with David's horse (Miller on Bettor's Edge), put him away and then battled with his stablemate. Actually his stablemate was to me and he fought back and beat him.

"He's just as good of a horse as I thought he was; it's just been some unfortunate things this year so maybe we can salvage the back half of the season.

"He was so good. I think he just loves Lexington. I think he some allergies. He comes down here. He breathes better. Obviously it rehabilitates him and he just loves Lexington. Same as me.

"I do (feel a sense of vindication). There are a lot of big races I'd like to have back, but that's a big relief to get one under our belt and go into the Breeders Crown on the right foot."

Economy Terror, Romantic Moment score in Glen Garnsey Memorial
A pair of $111,000 divisions of the Glen Garnsey Memorial for 3-year-old filly pacers were contested on Saturday (Oct. 6) at The Red Mile.
Nigel Soult
Economy Terror (6) defeated American Jewel at the wire in 1:50 to win the second division of the Glen Garnsey Memorial.
In the second division, Economy Terror nipped Amercan Jewel at the wire to score in a time of 1:50. Shelliscape was third. Dave Palone was in the bike for trainer Chris Oakes and owners Chuck Pompey, Howard Taylor and Edwin Gold. The win was the fifth in 12 trips behind the gate this year for Economy Terror who lifted her season's earnings to $374,430.

Economy Terror was the early leader, hitting the quarter pole on top in :27.3, before yielding to American Jewel who set middle panels of :55.4 and 1:23.1. American Jewel was challenged on the outside by Shelliscape in the stretch and managed to hold that one off, but she could not rebuff the late charge of Economy Terror, who won in a photo finish.

"For two years every week I've been waiting for this to happen (beating American Jewel)," said an elated co-owner Howard Taylor. "In the lane I didn't think she would get there, but then when she started surging I knew she would.

"She has had some bad luck this year, but the difference today was she was put in the right position.

"I had almost given up that she was ever going to beat American Jewel and I've won some races at The Red Mile but this is the first time I've been in the winner's circle as an owner. It's on to the Breeders Crown and you can't imagine how great this feels. Finally."

Nigel Soult
Romantic Moment won the opening division on the front-end in 1:50.3 for driver Yannick Gingras.
The opening division saw Brittany Farms' Romantic Moment post her ninth win of the season, pacing a front-end mile in 1:50.3. Yannick Gingras was in the bike for trainer Jimmy Takter as the daughter of American Ideal-Time N Again lifted her 2012 earnings to $801,002.

Romantic Moment ($2.40) cleared to the front at the opening panel in :28.3 and was never seriously challenged through subsequent fractions of :56.3, 1:24 and 1:50.3. She paced her back half in :54 and the final quarter in :26.3.

Destiny's Chance finished second and Rockaround Sue was third.

Romantic Moment was second in her Bluegrass division to Shelliscape after a first over trip last week, but driver Yannick Gingras said that trip did not seem to bother her today.

"No not at all. Of course it was an easier trip (today). I got to send her a little, then dropped in until the first turn, but she's a strong filly and she's only had a handful of tough starts.

";She's raced in New York (Sire Stakes all year) so she is fresh and ready to go."

Market Share wins Late Closer at Red Mile
Nigel Sooult
Market Share won a Late Closer in a lifetime best 1:50.3 on Saturday at The Red Mile.
Hambletonian champion Market Share, who was not eligible to the Kentucky Futurity, captured a $10,000 Late Closer on Saturday (Oct. 6) at The Red Mile in a lifetime best 1:50.3.

Tim Tetrick drove the Linda Toscano trained son of Revenue S-Classical Flirt to his eighth win in 16 season's starts, improving his 2012 bankroll to $1,766,455. The colt is owned by Richard Gutnick, TLP Stable and William Augustine.

As Lightning Storm took the field by the three-quarters in 1:23.3, Market Share was out and rolling. He took over the lead at the top of the stretch and was never headed in the lifetime best mile. Prayer Session rallied to finish second and Lightning Storm finished third.

"It was just to get him tight two weeks from now for the Breeders Crown (on racing him in this spot)," said co-owner Richard Gutnick. "We thought this would keep him tight. I was surprised myself to see how wrapped up (he was) for him to do it in 1:50.3.

"I feel very good (going into the Breeders Crown). I told Tim you didn't want to break 1:50 today because you are saving it for Chapter Seven (the Gutnick owned free-for-all trotter who races here Sunday)! I had to tease him a little bit."
