Bee A Magician caps undefeated season with 17th win
Bee A Magician runs season's streak to 17 with Moni Maker triumph
Bee A Magician ran her 2013 record to 17 for 17 with a 1:53.3 score in the $253,000 Moni Maker for 3-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday night at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment.

Bee A Magician made it a perfect 17 for 17 with her one length victory in 1:53.3 in the $253,000 Moni Maker Stake for 3-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday night (Nov. 30) at the Meadowlands. The win put her over the $2.3 million mark in career earnings.

Time To Kill (John Campbell) made it to the lead first at the :27.2 quarter mile-mark while Ma Chere Hall (Corey Callahan) overtook her briefly just past that marker, but Brian Sears had Bee A Magician just behind her on the outside.

Those two made an unpressured move to take the lead just before the :55.3 half. Sears put 2-1/2 lengths between him and the field and trotted on to the 1:25 three-quarters with Ma Chere Hall at his back.

As the field trotted down the stretch, Ma Chere Hall made a bid to get past Bee A Magician, got just to her wheel at the wire, but could go no further, as Bee A Magician cruised home to win No. 17 for 2013.

Bee A Magician is trained by Richard "Nifty" Norman for owners David McDuffee, Mel Hartman and Herb Liverman.

“It’s the end of the year, last time, so it’s fun to get it over with, but she came through again, so I’m very, very proud of her,” said Norman, wearing a ball cap with Bee A Magician’s name embroidered on it. “She’s not that hard to train, you just have to look after her. She does much of it herself. You definitely can’t deny what she’s accomplished.”

Norman says she’ll get “Three months in the paddock and I don’t know where we’ll start off (in 2014). That’s a whole ‘nother year.”

“We had an unbelievable year and I’ll tell you what, I have been in the business a long time,” said co-owner David McDuffee. “I’ve had some good horses. This is a great horse. It’s just an unbelievable feeling. Isn’t that what we all try to do (have a horse of the year)? We’re going to try it again next year.”
