Fashion Farms’ Cooler Schooner, with John Campbell in the bike, went wire to wire to easily win the second Breeders Crown elimination for 2-year-old filly trotters in 1:52.2 Friday (Oct. 11) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Shake It Cerry won the first elimination in 1:54.1.
Cooler Schooner, by Broadway Hall-Pine Schooner, left quickly, winning a brief bid for the top with Vanity Manners. Sent off at 7-5, Vanity Manners broke into the first turn and was eliminated. By the 27.1 first quarter, Cooler Schooner was far out in front and stayed seven lengths the best through a 55.1 half. Scream And Shout was gliding easily as best of the rest.
Cooler Schooner kept winging into a 1:24.3 three-quarters. Demanding Sam came out late to charge from the outside, but couldn’t get to Scream And Shout, who finished second as Cooler Schooner raced the final quarter in 27.4, crossing the wire 10-¾ lengths in front.
Arlene and Jules Siegel of Pennsylvania-bred Cooler Schooner, who won in 1:51.3 at Pocono in August. John Campbell was in the bike for that win, too, though Cooler Schooner was sent off at 12-1; she was 4-5 in this event. Her Aug. 21 win at Pocono was the fastest mile in history by a 2-year-old on any sized track.
Scream And Shout, Demanding Sam and Ruby also earned their way into the final field.
“She can just go so easy, nothing surprises me anymore,” said trainer Jim Campbell. “[John] looked like he was just going along where she was comfortable but after she set that world record nothing surprises me with her.
“If she keeps her head on straight she can go with anybody. She has to repeat this type of performance next week [in the final]
The two elimination winners will draw for post positions 1 through 5 with the rest of the finishers being placed in an open draw. The draw will take place before the Saturday race card.
Shake It Cerry wins first elimination
Shake It Cerry regained winning form, converting a pocket trip and trotting by stablemate Lifetime Pursuit to capture the first of two $25,000 Breeders Crown eliminations for 2-year-old trotting fillies in 1:54.1.

Lifetime Pursuit and driver Yannick Gingras were able to take advantage of little movement in the field and waltzed to the half in 58. It wasn’t until midway down the backstretch the final time that Goddess and driver John Campbell moved on the outside to take her shot at the leaders.
The pace accelerated with Goddess unable to gain even terms with the pacesetter with Lifetime Pursuit hitting the three quarters in 1:26.2.
The stretch proved to be a two-filly race with Lifetime Pursuit digging in and Shake It Cerry moving inside through the passing lane. Driver Ron Pierce urged Shake It Cerry lightly and the daughter of Donato Hanover-Solveig took off with explosive trot, crossing the wire in 1:54.1.
Lifetime Pursuit finished three-quarters of a length behind Shake It Cerry. Goddess held her ground firmly in the stretch with Struck By Lindy closing for fourth. Market Rally was able to pick up the fifth spot and by virtue of her earnings will join the top four in the $500,000 Breeders Crown final on Oct. 19.
Jimmy Takter trains the first two finishers with the homebred Shake It Cerry owned by Solveig’s Racing Partners of New Jersey. Shake it Cerry has won four of her seven starts this year with her biggest victory coming in the $321,700 Merrie Annabelle at The Meadowlands in August. Shake It Cerry paid $5 to win as the second betting choice.
Winning driver Ron Pierce said “She should be coming into next week really good. She hardly had to work tonight. She wanted to work a lot harder, but I made her sit in there. She’s real fussy about that, but next week we’ll be letter her trot.”
The finalists for the 2-Year-Old Filly Trot are as follows, in no particular order. The draw will take place Saturday (Oct. 12) before the race card.
