Freshman Trotters Tussle At Harrah’s
Three divisions of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes races for two-year-old filly trotters went postward on Thursday (August 11) at Harrah's Philadelphia, each of which carried purses of just over $63,000.
In the first division, it was the Charlie Norris-trained and driven Treviso that took the lion's share. The daughter of Muscle Massive was able to establish pocket position behind race favourite Fine Tuned Lady (who was driven by Corey Callahan). She vacated the garden spot to gun down the leader and won by a neck in 1:55.3. Yooper (Matt Kakaley) settled for third. It was the third career win for Treviso, who is owned by Klis Brothers Stable and Carrie Norris. She paid $18.60 to win.
In Division 2, it was Bob Stewart trainee Cant I (John Campbell) who remained undefeated. The daughter of Cantab Hall brushed to the top and managed to maintain her lead the rest of the way. She stopped the clock in 1:57.2. Broadway Idole (David Miller) was second, while Crann Tara (Corey Callahan) rallied for third. Cant I is owned by her breeders, the conglomerate of Taylor, Gold, Basen, and Fuller. She returned $5.40 to win.
In the third division, it was Temple Ruins (Yannick Gingras) who lasted on the lead. The daughter of Donato Hanover was able to rate on the lead, hold off the pocket-sitting favourite, Dangle Then Deke, in the stretch, and stop the clock in 1:56.3. It was her first career win. Future Secured (Ake Svanstedt) finished third. Temple Ruins is owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, Michelle Yanek, and Paul Treiber, and trained by Ron Burke. She paid $9.80 to win.
