Mission Accepted (Chris Page) was second and Guardian Angel AS (Tim Tetrick) was third.
Lindy The Great broke on top and led the field of 10 through the first quarter in a swift :26.1. Crystal Fashion (David Miller) took the overland route to claim the lead shortly before the half-mile marker. After a half in :55, Lindy The Great was shuffled back on the inside to third position and appeared to be blocked in his quest to hit the line first.
As the rest of the field advanced to overtake Crystal Fashion after three-quarters in 1:23.3, Roy steered Lindy The Great into the clear and the 5-year-old son of Crazed quickly opened up nearly two lengths on his rivals. With a final quarter of :27.1 he went on to a 3-3/4 length victory.
“Actually, today he was a little more relaxed,” Roy said. “I did not want to rush him out of the gate. He was perfect tonight and I was very happy with the trip.”
Trainer Domenico Cecere was also very pleased with Lindy The Great’s performance.
“I was very confident in him after he had been racing in Canada,” he said. “We are just going to enjoy tonight and we’ll see what is next.”
Owned by K R Breeding and Robert Rudolph, Lindy The Great scored a slight upset at odds of 5-1. His record now stands at 43-14-5-3 and his bankroll at $571,775.
The gelding’s backers were rewarded with a payout of $13.20.
